Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy / St. John’s University Partnership
One of the aspects of the new academy structure for Catholic schools in the Brooklyn Diocese is the partnership the academies have with St. John’s University. Since the governance structure of these new academies is different from the old parish model, St. John’s has offered the governing boards of the academies a series of seminars to help develop best practices for running the academies. In addition, St. John’s is providing assistance in the areas of marketing and technology to help build enrollment and offer attractive technology curriculum to prospective students. Principals have also attended university sponsored meetings designed to provide assistance in adjusting to the new governance model and to share best practices with other academy principals. Teachers also have the opportunity to enhance their professional development through a variety of courses held at St. John’s. This partnership with St. John’s University has provided and will continue to provide Divine Wisdom Academy with valuable training and access to resources needed to sustain our viability and enhance the quality of our school.
From St. Anastasia School to Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy
St. Anastasia graduations are finished, report cards are distributed and on Tuesday, June 23rd the school year was completed. The doors of St. Anastasia School were closed and will reopen again in September as the Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy.
Parishioners have asked various questions about this transition. And so at our Parish Assembly a few weeks ago, a member of the Academy’s Board gave a very thorough update on the Academy. But since the majority of parishioners did not attend the Assembly ,we priests felt it important to take opportunities to inform you of this transition from the pulpit and in the bulletin.

Diocese Announces 29 Regional School Reconfiguration Proposals
St. Anastasia School will receive specific administrative assistance
from the Office of the Superintendent for Catholic School Support
Services in order to help the school respond to the recommendations it
will receive regarding areas of concern. Among these recommendations
will be:
- The introduction of the new governance model into the school by start of the 2009-10 academic year, transforming it into a regional academy
- The
new Academy will utilize a two-tier governance model, including lay
directors. Once established, the members and directors will be given
the mandate to realize the following:
- The creation of a three year
strategic plan to reverse the projected decrease in enrollment, with
specific annual goal for increased student enrollment;
- A business plan to assure the financial stability of the new academy for both the short and long term;
- The submission of a budget for the 2009-10 academic year that does not rely upon any direct parish subsidy;
- To augment and strengthen current academic and extra-curriculum activities"
