Selections from Handel's Messiah

Handel composed his oratorio "The Messiah" in 1741, and it was first performed in Dublin in April of 1742. The "Messiah" is composed in three parts - Part 1 tells of the events leading up to the birth of Jesus, including references made about the coming of the Messiah from the prophet Isaiah, Part 2 includes the themes and events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus, and Part 3 includes the period of time between Easter and Pentecost. While the famous "Hallelujah Chorus" is actually placed at the end of Part 2 - at the resurrection - it is also traditionally sung at Christmastime, as the end of Part 1.

From Our New Music Director

musicnote.jpgI am delighted to be joining St. Anastasia's Parish as the Director of Music Ministry. After having spent many years as a music teacher at The Mary Louis Academy, as well as a music director in various parishes throughout the Brooklyn and Rockville Centre Dioceses, I am thrilled to be "coming home" to St. Anastasia's. As a teenager, my family lived on 248th Street - I even had my first job at the Dunkin Donuts on the corner! - so I have many fond memories of St. Anastasia's, and I can now share this wonderful parish with my own husband and 3 children. Please come and introduce yourself to me so that I may get to know everyone, or better yet, consider joining the choir - we will be rehearsing at 11:00 AM on Sundays, and I would love to have you join us.
