The year 2005 is a special year for St. Anastasia Parish. It marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the parish. It is an occasion to celebrate. For 90 years St Anastasia parish has brought life, stability and excitement to the towns of Douglaston and Little Neck. It has done this in various ways. First of all St. Anastasia calls together people every week to worship God and grow in their love of God and neighbor. This fosters good people who are proud of their communities and take pride in their citizenship in a wonderful city and country.
Secondly, St. Anastasia established a school for giving the children of these communities a first class education rooted in values that will help them to have a good background for their professional lives. In 90 years literally thousands of young people have attended this school which they love. We now have some third generation children whose parents and grandparents graduated from the school. St. Anastasia has also sponsored a school of religion for those young people not in the parochial school. This allowed them to appreciate the faith of their parents and to be fully initiated in the Church.
Finally, St. Anastasia has always sponsored a sports organization for all the youth of the communities. Basketball, baseball, soccer, and swimming are the sports that give our youth the qualities of respect for one another, good sportsmanship and a love for recreation. These are the major ways St. Anastasia has brought life and energy to Little Neck and Douglaston for 90 years. It has never faltered, and we look forward to a future as vigorous and active in the community as in the past.
